Keeping Article 1 in honor

The Mayor Dales Price and the Mayor Dales Lecture are created by the COC Nijmegen and the Foundation Mayor Dales  Lecture. The prize is intended to distinguish women, men or organizations who, in the State of Nijmegen on a voluntary basis and in a very personal and exemplary manner have given shape to Article 1 of the Constitution, the article that expresses the principle of non-discrimination.
Consideration is given to people who are clearly committed to serving and the empowerment of minorities, for equal treatment of disadvantaged groups and / or to combat discrimination in the broadest sense of the word.

The Mayor Dales Lecture gives leading figures from the community opportunity to comment on current, special and / or problematic aspects of the non-discrimination principle in the Netherlands and beyond. The lecture was first pronounced by a.o. Anil Ramdas, Jan Pronk, Femke Halsema, Afshin Ellian, Ed. of Thijn, Rob Tielman and Alexander Pechtold.

The price and the Lecture
The Mayor Dales Prize consists of a certificate and an amount of 500 euro. He was created to mark the 25th anniversary of COC Nijmegen in 1996.

The prize is intended to support women, men and organizations who, on a voluntary basis and on a very personal and exemplary way have given shape to the idea behind Article 1 of our Constitution, that the expresses the principle of non-discrimination

Suggested are people and organizations who are serving and unequivocally committed to the empowerment of minorities, for equal treatment of disadvantaged groups and / or to combat discrimination in the broadest sense of the word. Ineligible are people and organizations who do this professionally.
The Mayor Price Dales is an initiative of the COC Nijmegen, but not a price that carries the label  “Gay price”. This can be seen from the winners of recent years. The COC strives for emancipation and wants the fight against discrimination is not to give a sectarian approach. The composition of the jury guarantees a broad equal vision.
