Vulnerable Matter

‘Vulnerable Matter’ is the title of Villa Lila’s latest exhibition. At the exhibition Margaret Brügmann presents her latest paintings and drawings.

Margret Brugman Margret Brugman

Margaret Brügmann was born in Hamburg in 1948. She’s been living in Amsterdam for years and works at the Radboud University in Nijmegen as senior lecturer General Art Studies.
In 1994 she finished the Art Academy Arnhem. In her work there’s a major difference between her paintings and her drawings.

The communal theme of her work is grounded in a response to everyday things, but also to subjects like cultural history and even geology.
Take for instance her oil paintings.
Here the emphasis lies on interaction with matter: vulnerable paint is transformed into substantial paintings which Margaret calls ‘tectonic landscapes’.
In her drawings however, the shaping of reality by means of her material leads to a much more figurative work which retains a recognizable narrative element.

Exposities zijn te bezichtigen op elke werkdag van 13.00 tot 17.00 uur. Voor bezichtingen buiten deze uren kun je met het Beheer een afspraak maken.
