Margaret Brügmann was born in Hamburg in 1948. She’s been
living in Amsterdam for years and works at the Radboud University in Nijmegen
as senior lecturer General Art Studies.
In 1994 she finished the Art Academy Arnhem. In her work there’s a
major difference between her paintings and her drawings.
The communal theme of her work is grounded in a response to everyday
things, but also to subjects like cultural history and even geology.
Take for instance her oil paintings.
Here the emphasis lies on interaction with matter: vulnerable paint is
transformed into substantial paintings which Margaret calls ‘tectonic
landscapes’.
In her drawings however, the shaping of reality by means of her material
leads to a much more figurative work which retains a recognizable narrative
element.
